Middle Creek Mesquites

Middle Creek Mesquites
6" x 8"
oil on canvas board

Sorry about the washed out photo. I did a rush job on this batch of images, but will have a better one when I put it on my website. I'll let you know when I do that...

This was right down the street from the previous post's painting spot. I went a little haywire with the color. Well, with the red swath of earth.

Again, working on distance and laying down the paint and leaving it. I enjoyed working around the branches and foliage clumps on the Mesquite trees. I love these trees. They are so variable and limber looking in the shapes they take.

Very nice Sara!!... I like (despite the lousy photo)

I have some questions about some of what you posted about Calvin's class. WHY does he say to work from foreground to background?? Did he explain that??
Aslo... HOW do you allow under layers to shine through????

Gosh... I really want to take another class from him!

Thanks Marian!

I think it was as much a personal preference as technical advice. As far as I can remember, you start with the foreground so you don't end up with darks that are too dark up front because the sky colors were not light enough. Mapping out the colors closer to you is easier, so you can better judge how light to go with the skies.

I found it a bit counter-intuitive at first, because I had been going the other direction- back to front, or top to bottom. I did it, though, and it ended up being one of the many techniques from this workshop I have kept.

Wanna come to the 2010 one here? We can take it together!
